Staying Fit

  • Staying Fit

Exercise is so important to keep your body healthy. Experts recommend that teens should work out for at least 1 hour every day. Getting your body moving is important to prevent diseases later in life, to keep you at a healthy body weight by burning calories, and to keep your muscles and bones strong. Exercise has also been found to release hormones called endorphins in the body, which make you feel good.

Exercise doesn’t have to be going to the gym or running. While more vigorous exercise is important to get your heart pumping, there are many ways to get moving that you may not be thinking of.

  • Exercise Ideas

Exercise doesn’t have to be going to the gym or running. While more vigorous exercise is important to get your heart pumping, there are many ways to get moving that you may not be thinking of.

Here are some ideas for exercising:

    • Always take the stairs instead of an elevator or escalator.
    • Dance! Attend a dance class, dance with your friends, or even just dance alone in your house.
    • Play a game of basketball or soccer
    • Go for a swim.
    • If you’re watching TV or playing a game, take a break and do some crunches, push-ups, or jumping jacks. This can be especially good when you are bored during commercial breaks.
    • Go for a hike or a walk around town with friends.
    • Make your exercise time fun by throwing around a Frisbee or baseball
    • Take your dog for a walk.
    • Try to bike or walk to school, work, or to meet friends, if possible and safe

Download an exercise app on your phone to track what you’re doing, how many calories you’re burning, and suggestions for other workouts. A good one is the Nike Training Club app, but find the one that works for your workout needs by doing some research!
